Launched at the birth of the Jazz Age, she survived the Depression, rescued countless Allied troops as one of the famous Dunkirk "Little Ships" in 1940, was sunk in 1941, refloated and in 1943 was scuttled by the Germans as part of the blockade of Nieuport harbour. In post war years, she was restored to her former glory (for those of a technical mind she is a 55ft Gaff Cutter, Carvel, oak on oak) and cherished by a number of loving owners. Her latest challenge: a round the UK trip in the late summer/autumn of 2008, raising money for two diverse, but equally important charities, East Anglia's Children's Hospices and the Vila Maninga project in Mozambique.
Sailing
from Ipswich on 6th September and due to return on 1st November,
the Angele Aline
will be seen off in style at a Gala Dinner on the eve of her departure.
During the voyage she will sail up the East coast to
Inverness, go west through the Caledonian Canal, navigate the Scottish
islands and return via the East coast visiting Edinburgh and Whitby.
The itinerary is reliant on good weather, but many other stops and
sites are scheduled along the way. Enthusiasts are invited
to join the Angele Aline
for a leg of the voyage: for a modest contribution, of course, to the
good causes!

East Anglia's Children's Hospices
supports families throughout their experience of
caring for children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses. Vila Maninga
is a small charity in Mozambique committed to caring for and working
with the poor and needy. It has foster homes for orphans, a primary
school, vocational training work, homes for the elderly and a day
clinic. Both charities will benefit directly and put
monies raised to special projects. You can specify if you
want your donation to go to either, or both equally. How
much? For that you must go to the contact point below.
Full details are now available of itinerary, costs, etc from the links
on the left.
...So you are not the greatest sailor in the world? We can solve that problem, too. If would like to join the Angele Aline on her latest voyage you can participate in sailing tuition days throughout the spring and summer so that you can feel quite confident!
