Angele Aline

Along with many fellow residents, I was slightly puzzled

by the flier which came with last month's magazine. I

thought I knew what was going on, but my knowledge

was very sketchy. Now, after a fabulous "Launch" dinner

at Ipswich Marina last Friday, I really feel I can pass on

some useful information. Our Rector, David, and Ray

Dunstone our benefice treasurer, are embarking on a

round Britain Charity Voyage in August.

As you will have seen from the flier, there are many ways to become involved in this exciting adventure; by donating some money, helping prepare the boat, or going on part of the trip as passenger or crew. I wish I could handle the sea better!

Anyway - the dinner was great and the company very interesting. After the main course, Rev Robert Clifton told us about Vila Maninga, which is one of the charities to benefit from this project. He has, of course, first hand knowledge of this wonderful set-up and is very passionate about it. Then a lady from East Anglia Children's Hospices spoke very movingly about their work and the vast sums of money required to keep it going. Both such worthy causes and, I feel, deserving of all the support we can muster. A lovely moment during the evening came when all the people at the bar gave a rousing round of applause and came to tell us how they admired what was being planned. They also contributed generously to the raffle, but as it was 29th February, probably bought tickets as a result of the marriage proposal from the seller! I am pleased to say that they won most of the prizes!EACH

After the festivities, I was treated to a guided tour of the Angele Aline as I was, fortunately, wearing the right sort of shoes. What a compact and impressively appointed craft! I felt quite envious of those destined to sail in her, and sent up a little prayer for their protection. Gail
